The Andy Warhol and the Shoes
Manolo says, if you are in the Pittsburgh in the near future (and who would not want that?) perhaps you should be visiting the Museum of the Andy Warhol.
The Andy Warhol Museum today announced that it has secured commitments from leading designers to sketch shoes in honor of its tenth anniversary. Inspired by the works of Andy Warhol and created solely for the Museum’s April 9, 2005 Spike-a-delic gala fundraiser, the exclusive, signed drawings will be auctioned online via Ebay.com beginning April 1, 2005. (seller name: theandywarholmuseum)
All proceeds will benefit The Warhol’s educational exhibitions and programs fund.
Participating designers, artists and celebrities include: Polly Apfelbaum, Jeffrey Banks, John Bankston, Manolo Blahnik, Sully Bonnelly, Edmundo Castillo, Roberto Cavalli, Kenneth Cole, Ashley Dearborn, Sam Edelman, Ferragamo, Cole Haan, Hollywould, Heidi Klum, Christian Louboutin, Steve Madden, Carlos Miele, Nicole Miller, Isaac Mizrahi, Burton Morris, Paloma Picasso, Narciso Rodriguez, Sonia Rykiel, Patti Smith, Martha Stewart, Vivienne Tam, Marcel Wanders and John Waters.
“Andy Warhol had a lifelong fascination with shoes and a remarkable career as an illustrator and artist,” said The Warhol’s Director, Thomas Sokolowski. “So it’s fitting that in celebrating The Warhol’s tenth anniversary, we’ll not only pay tribute to the life and works of Warhol, but also to today’s world-class designers who enable us to express and differentiate ourselves through their fashions.”
Manolo says, this it sounds like the fun and worthy event, even if, sadly, they have not asked the Manolo the Shoeblogger to submit his many, varied, and obsessive drawings of the shoes.

Living in Pittsburgh myself, I must second this — the Warhol is fabulous! And, of course, any exhibit on shoes is well worth the trip. Trust me, Pittsburgh is MUCH better than you think.

I like Pittsburgh, especially the Church Brewery, which is like nothing else anywhere…
Please show us your obsessive shoe etchings. It would make a wonderful post or even thread.
I’m not sure about whether you should show us your picture. It would be more interesting to invite people to talk about how they imagine the Manolo to look. I’ll begin: I envision a somewhat smaller version of Ricardo Montalban (from Fantasy Island, not Wrath of Khan).

Ooh! Obsessive Manolo shoe drawings! It must be a new blog!
As for Manolo’s physique, I am sure he is either a fantastically handsome man of about 5’5″, with dark slightly receding hair that only lends a sophisticated allure to his already Latin magnetic air; or a tall black woman. It could go either way at this point – it’s the Internet! Let *him* have his anonymity.

Even without the shoes – the Warhol is a place to visit. Incredible!
There are notecards of his shoe sketches too – what any fashionable girl uses for stationary! http://www.imageexchange.com/mvx10/engine.cgi?store=warhol&page=default&body=sku1&sku=15034&affiliate=froogle

The Warhol (Andy himself, not the museum) would indeed have welcomed the shoe drawings of the Manalo.
