Having been in Nepal, I can tell you that these amazing (and truly beautiful) people tend to wear thongs whist traveling up and down (sometimes several miles up and down) over the countryside while carrying things like 50 pound sacks of rice on their back. The “thong” type sandal illustrated above is quite reminiscent of the “traditional footware” that we saw on most people’s feet. Keep in mind that we were wearing hiking boots of the first order on our trek and felt like complete fools in comparison. The feathers - well, I don’t know about that!
